Evensville, TN Contractors

Evensville, Tennessee, is located in Rhea County about six miles northeast of Dayton. The community is considered a “census-designated place,” which is a term used to identify populated areas without distinct borders or a separate municipal government.

The local area has abundant natural resources, magnificent scenic wonders and plenty of southern hospitality. Residents appreciate the town’s close proximity to Watts Bar Lake, which features over 780 miles of pristine shoreline. Since it is part of the Cumberland Plateau, Evensville has a variety of rolling hills and trails perfect for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

History

Inside Rhea County’s borders there are three major cities and four unincorporated communities, including Evensville, Frazier, Old Washington and Grandview. The county was created in 1807 and named after John Rhea , who was a Revolutionary War hero and U.S. Congressman.

Evansville is located in a valley between the Cumberland Plateau and the Tennessee River. When the Cherokee Nation relinquished its ownership claim in 1805, settlers began moving into the valley to take advantage of the area’s fertile land and abundant water resources.

The most significant event in Rhea County’s history was the famous Scopes Monkey Trial that took place in the city of Dayton, TN, in July, 1925. The case challenged a law that banned evolution in the classroom and featured William Jennings Bryan, a former Presidential candidate, against Clarence Darrow, a famous defense attorney.

Today, Rhea County has an economy based around manufacturing, agriculture, retail services and tourism.
