Need Help? Which Type of System Are You Looking For?

The right heating and cooling system can provide total comfort in your home or business while helping you control energy costs. If you're shopping for a new, ductless HVAC system, you'll need to carefully choose both outdoor and indoor units. As your Mitsubishi Electric Contractors, we can help you choose the right indoor unit for your needs. Remember that working with a trained contractor is the best way to ensure that your HVAC system will truly meet your demands.

Your Indoor Heating and Cooling Unit Options

Heating and cooling systems have come a long way in the past 30 years. Today, many home and business owners use ductless systems to keep their buildings pleasingly cooled or warmed. These systems require no ductwork, meaning that they are easy to install and don't suffer from the same energy loss as traditional, central air systems. Ductless systems boast outdoor units that produce treated air and indoor air handling units that deliver that air to a home or business. Indoor air handlers can be paired with all of these outdoor units:

  • Ductless heat pumps.
  • Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners.
  • Mini-split systems.
  • Furnaces and boilers.

Indoor Air Handler Options

As you shop for a new HVAC unit, it's important to keep your own needs in mind. Before you begin shopping, decide what type of indoor air handling units you need for your home or office. Pairing the right indoor and outdoor units is key to realizing optimal efficiency and reliability. You'll need to carefully consider mount types, sizing, unit types and efficiency ratings before making a purchasing decision.

Mount Types

Mitsubishi Electric air conditioner and Mitsubishi Electric heat pump systems must be paired with indoor air handlers in order to provide treated air for your space. These air handlers are available in three different mount types:

  • Wall-mounted units that are hung high up on walls, near the ceiling.
  • Floor-mounted units that are placed directly in the floor or are set into floorboards.
  • Horizontal-ducted units that are designed to work with your home's existing ductwork.

Choosing the right size indoor air handler for your space is essential to realizing the best in efficiency. Before you start shopping, ask a licensed contractor to complete load calculations for your home or business. You can use these calculations to identify both indoor and outdoor units that will best meet your needs. Remember that units are sized according to their British Thermal Units (BTUs).

Unit Types

In addition to choosing a unit according to size and mount type, you'll also need to pay close attention to the technology that the unit uses. Most indoor air handlers are either inverter or non-inverter units:

  • Inverter units function at variable speeds in order to meet your heating and cooling demands. Ductless air conditioners paired with inverter air handling units provide for the highest efficiency.
  • Non-inverter units always function at the same speed. This means that they are either functioning at their full capacity or are turned off altogether. These units are best suited to areas with heavy heating and cooling demands.

Efficiency Ratings

You should also focus on buying a Mitsubishi Electric heater or air conditioner that has great efficiency ratings. Look for units that offer:

  • SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) ratings of 13 or higher.
  • HSPF (heating seasonal performance factor) ratings of 8.6 or higher.
